Unexpected Opening: Hematopathology Fellowship (2026–2027)
Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, NY

An unexpected opening is available for the Hematopathology Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital for the 2026–2027 academic year. This one-year, ACGME-accredited program offers comprehensive, clinically focused training in a high-volume, academically rigorous environment in New York City.

Fellows develop strong diagnostic expertise in the evaluation of hematopathology specimens, including bone marrow and lymph node biopsies, through close integration of clinical history, morphologic assessment, immunophenotyping, cytogenomics, and molecular genetic studies. Training emphasizes a practical, case-based approach to diagnosis, preparing fellows for both academic and high-level clinical practice.

The program provides hands-on experience across the Mount Sinai Health System’s state-of-the-art clinical laboratories, including flow cytometry, cytogenomics, and molecular diagnostics. These laboratories are certified by the New York State Department of Health and accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). Fellows gain valuable exposure to laboratory management, quality assurance and improvement, and regulatory compliance, with opportunities to develop leadership skills.

A major strength of the program is its robust digital pathology platform, with the majority of case review and sign-out performed digitally. This provides fellows with extensive experience in contemporary, technology-enabled diagnostic workflows that are increasingly shaping the future of pathology practice.

Fellows play an active role in the academic mission of the department, including presenting cases at multidisciplinary conferences and tumor boards, delivering didactic lectures, and participating in resident education.
