DETROIT, MICHIGAN (USA). Henry Ford Health’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks a board-certified Hematopathologist to join our system-wide subspecialty Hematopathology Division. Hematopathology is a centralized service that annually handles roughly 1300 diagnostic lymph node biopsy specimens, 1500 diagnostic bone marrow (aspirate and biopsy) specimens, 6000 flow cytometry cases of leukemia or lymphoma and approximately 3500 peripheral smear consults and hemoglobinopathy interpretations. This role will provide comprehensive diagnostic coverage of bone marrow, lymph node and extra nodal biopsies, hematology laboratory consultation, and interpretation of ancillary diagnostic studies, e.g., immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, and molecular assays.
Hematopathology is professionally staffed by six board-certified hematopathologists including two with additional board certification in Molecular Genetic Pathology. They are complemented by a very comprehensive Division of Molecular Pathology and Genomic Medicine that is staffed by an additional 8 MGP board-certified pathologists and 4 LGG board-certified PhDs who are responsible for the Henry Ford Center for Precision Diagnostics, offering a highly sophisticated and comprehensive suite of molecular and cytogenetic testing services, distinguished by both breadth and clinical integration. The molecular laboratories support germline, somatic, pharmacogenomic, hematolymphoid, and liquid biopsy testing with advanced technologies including Next-Generation Sequencing, chromosomal microarray, genome-wide methylation profiling, optical genome mapping, and circulating tumor DNA assays. For hematologic malignancies, we integrate molecular mutations, fusion detection, and cytogenetic analyses to guide diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment.
The Pathology Department is both a System wide product line for 6 acute care hospitals and 40 clinic delivery sites as well as the academic Pathology Department of Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. All 54 Henry Ford pathologists are members of the Henry Ford Medical Group, the nation’s 3rd largest clinic-based employed multispecialty medical group practice. The laboratories of Henry Ford Pathology are CLIA-certified, CAP-accredited, ISO 15189 accredited, and Lean managed, ensuring high analytical quality, competence and reliable service levels.
Applicants must have an academic interest in translational research in diseases of blood, bone marrow or lymphoid system. Additional responsibilities will include teaching of medical students, pathology residents, and clinical and fellows. Academic appointment in the university department is available to qualified candidates.
