The University of California Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine invites applications for a full-time senior faculty member in Hematopathology. The academic appointment may be at the Associate or Professor rank in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research effort. Incumbents in the HS series are expected to provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Incumbents in the Clinical X series are expected to conduct substantial research; provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; and perform public and University service. Excellent teaching is an essential criterion for appointment in the Clinical X series. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.
Applicants must hold an MD, DO, or MD/PhD degree, have fellowship training in Hematopathology, have at least 5 years of experience as a hematopathologist, must be board-certified in both Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, and be eligible for a California medical license. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent communication and managerial skills, a strong interest in service activities, a commitment to education, and interest in clinical and/or translational research that may be collaborative in nature. The candidate will be responsible for clinical services in hematopathology, including on-call duty, service on department and hospital committees, and teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows.
This position will serve the laboratory needs of UCI Health the only academic medical complex in Orange County, which include at our 400+ bed tertiary/quaternary care Douglas hospital located in the city of Orange; a new hospital complex on the Irvine campus; and several community hospitals and several outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.
